About Me

Hi, my name is Michael Leef!

I will be graduating in May 2024 with a BSE in Electrical Engineering. I was drawn to the Grand Challenges Scholars Program because of its competitive nature and interdisciplinary approach to engineering.

One of the four GCSP themes I would like to focus on is sustainability. According to the Brundtland Report, sustainability is defined as "development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs." I would like to work towards greater access to utilities such as water and energy while keeping sustainability in mind for the future.

In terms of pathways in my engineering career, I have particular interests in energy generation and microprocessing. In the past I have conducted an investigation on the electromagnetic field under various stresses and hope to continue that work and understand how this can effect energy generation and develop ways for energy transfers more efficient. Microprocessing is a relatively new concept to me currently, but I hope to gain experience from it and grow as an electrical engineer.
